It’s that time of year again when everyone is starting fresh with resolutions and big, lofty goals. What a fun time to have a clean slate and imagine all that can be in 2012!
But I’m on a little different plane this year. Rather than getting all geared up to start with a bang and make big, sweeping changes in these first few days of January, I’m approaching this year differently.
I’m living step-by-step and moment-by-moment. I’ve decided that the right answer for me this year isn’t to overhaul my life in the first week, but rather to make wise choices in the small things throughout the year and live intentionally in everything I do. I have goals, but I’m taking a slower, more lasting, approach to fulfilling them.
And that includes writing.
My word for 2012 is “completion” and that means that a lot of the writing I will do this year involves finishing what I’ve already started.
No hoops and hollers and big fireworks about that. I simply must write one word after another and get the job done.
But isn’t that how we accomplish any writing? Whether we have a deadline that’s too close for comfort or we have ample time to play with our words, the only way to finish anything we start is to connect one word to another, over and over again.
My prayer for you (and me) in 2012 is that you won’t be overwhelmed by the big stuff, but will simply enjoy writing word by word.

I will definitely be writing more during 2012. "Word by Word" is a perfect reminder for me.
Hi Bonita,
There's a lot of wisdom I keeping it simple, finishing what we start, and going word by word. Praying God blesses you in astonishing ways this year, my sweet friend.
I sometimes think a little whisper begins in the heart of one and then makes its way to other hearts. I've read other posts with the same thought Bonita, and I've been thinking about it myself. I don't even have a word for the year, but rather feel that the Lord will give me a word for each "season." Little by little, walking through the year.
You are wise. It's the baby steps that lead to the big goals. "Completion" is a great theme! I tend to love starting but it's the finishing that gets me.
I appreciate you sharing your simplified approach.
It will probably actually reduce your stress level more than you know!
Happy New Year.
Word by word... perfectly put! I think we should check on each other each week with a progress report, friend! We CAN do this...
I'll be applauding you every step of the way! Now... let's get to work! :)
